More information on our chosen charitable organizations:
To provide access to safe drinking water and sanitation: On March 20, 2015 Betsy and I departed on a life changing adventure to support WaterAid America. It’s easy for us to take safe drinking water for granted but for others around the world the lack of safe drinking water is a crisis. The number of children who die from waterborne diseases is overwhelming but the bottom line for us was that 1 child dying from a waterborne disease is too many and 1 child dying every minute doesn’t have to happen. We named our journey the H2Odyssey and we pedaled our way from San Diego, CA to Bar Harbor, ME – a ride of about 5,300 miles that took us 4 months to complete. We were able to raise $12,095 for WaterAid by increasing awareness of this crisis. Littlbug Enterprises is privileged to continue this support for the work of WaterAid America. If you choose this option, we will donate 20% of your purchase payment to WaterAid America.
To preserve the wilderness for future generations: The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) in northern Minnesota is my home away from home. It was here that the Littlbug Stove was conceived over 20 years ago. The BWCAW is America’s most visited wilderness and for good reason. Encompassing about 300 square miles of wilderness, it contains the pristine waters of over 1,100 lakes and hundreds of miles of rivers and streams. It has been protected since 1978 but once again the BWCAW is being threatened. This time Twin Metals Minnesota, a subsidiary of the Santiago, Chile-based conglomerate Antofagasta wants to begin sulfide-ore copper mining operations. These mines have a history of polluting ground water and place the BWCAW watershed in peril. Betsy and I want our grandchildren and yours to experience the grandeur of this special place on our earth. If you choose this option, we will donate 20% of your purchase payment to Save the Boundary Waters Campaign.
To help restore hope to disaster victims: Natural disasters seem to be happening more frequently these days and with greater impact. Through the outreach efforts of the Littlbug Humanitarian Aid Project (LHAP), we partner with Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) to rebuild and repair homes that have been damaged. We believe that hope is an essential part of disaster recovery efforts. Through financial assistance and volunteer labor, we are making a difference and helping to restore hope to families throughout America with our participation in projects ranging from Texas (Hurricane Harvey) to California (wildfires). When you lose hope you lose everything so please help us strengthen hope for those who need our helping hand. If you choose this option, we will donate 20% of your purchase payment to Mennonite Disaster Service.
For the needs of veterans: I was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1970 to 1974. Today, I drive veterans who need rides to get to the nearest VA medical center and I see first hand some of the difficulties these veterans face. From these experiences, I have come to appreciate the service of veterans from all branches of the military. Littlbug Enterprises is honored to offer you this opportunity to support veterans. If you choose this option, we will donate 20% of your purchase payment to the Wounded Warrior Project. Semper Fi.
