Littlbug Junior Stove

What’s one of the first things I grab when it’s time pack for a multi-day backpacking excursion? My scale, of course. I’ve always had a specific weight limit I stay under every time, and I won’t go an ounce over. Not negotiable. Maybe I’m a little stubborn, but I’d like to think my passion for keeping my hiking weight in check will spill over into being detail-oriented on the trail as well. The better I plan and the more meticulous I am, the more enjoyable the trip seems to be. It’s amazing that my Littlbug Junior Stove never has to make me think twice. Can you believe it? I have a small camp stove that can give me hours of natural wood-burning firepower… and it weighs 5.1 ounces! It will burn alcohol, too.

I was always taught that part of the secret to packing efficiently is to not waste any space. The Littlbug Junior Stove is designed to fit INSIDE a rolled up sleeping pad. Whether I’m visiting a State Park, or exploring the wilderness, the Littlbug Junior Stove provides plenty of warmth and capacity to get me through the journey.

The Littlbug Junior Stove is our smallest and lightest stove. The stove is constructed with durable stainless steel, burns wood or alcohol, provides a stable and versatile cooking platform and is uniquely designed to wrap around a sleeping pad for easy storage and transport. Works with most commercially available alcohol burners (burner not included). Storage pouch available (see related products below).

Littlbug beats the competition! The Littlbug Junior Stove topped all other entries in a head to head field test of 11 small, wood and alcohol burning camp stoves conducted by BackPackingLight. (click on the BackPackingLight logo to view the results)

  1. Impressed so far 4 Star Review

Yesterday I tested it by making coffee in the back yard. It used a fraction of the wood I expected to bring about 400ml to boil, and did so really quickly. I'll be using this in my next outings for sure!

I used this with alcohol to make coffee and toast bagels at the same time. Works great!

  3. just tested it 5 Star Review

i just bought this and took it out on a five day camp trip and it worked perfectly. easy to put together and take apart, fits in the pack taking up no room at all, and keep me warm during the cold nights. i tried it one night with my trangia, and it worked well as a wind screen. This is a great product.

  4. Works GREAT with Trangia burner! 5 Star Review

I first used this with my Trangia burner. It is faster to boil water than either my Trangia Stormcooker or Clikstand, however it still consumes the same amount of alcohol for the amount of water boiled. The Littlbug seems to concentrate the heat and make the Trangia burn hotter and faster. It boils 1 liter of water (covered, starting at 45 degrees F) in 8 minutes, and 2.5 liters (covered, same temp).

I have acquired a couple of wood burning stoves over the years, but never been too satisfied with them. They usually work good, but never really great, as there is always something that could be better. So I bought the Littlbug Junior to try it out. First I have to say, it is very light. The metal sheets are quite thin, but that does not really matter when it is assembled. Sitting ready on the ground, it is more than ready to go, and it works surprisingly well. With the bottom holes placed against the wind, letting oxygen in, it burns very well. Also, it is not a problem feeding the stove, as there is ample room between a pot and stove itself. I could feed the stove from all sides, with no risk of burning myself. Now, if you have a large frying pan on top, you will probably have to lift the pan to feed it. As Mr. Mears suggests, I put the stove with its protective sleeve into my 12 cm Billy Can, and put the lid on top, and that works very well. There is also plenty of room for other items in the Billy Can as well as the stove, so you can bring your alcohol burner, matches, lighter, fire steel, scouring pad, soap, or whatever. Of the wood burning stoves I have used, this is the one that works the best. It is light, easy to assemble, and easy to feed. And, it is large enough to burn a bit larger material than other stoves I have tried, and that is a good thing. Having a large fire when camping is nice, but sometimes, especially in the summer, you can't. So if you have a wood burning stove, that can be the solution. Just remember to put something under the stove, so you do not burn the ground; that way, you do not leave a trace. A bit pricey, but worth it. Happy camping! 6. Got it at Canadian Outdoor Equipment Co. 5 Star Review

My favorite. I saw Doug outside using this on Instagram. When I came into your store I saw it and bought it immediately. I was amazed how well it works only needing a couple handfuls of little sticks to boil 1 L of water. I have been using the Kelley kettle for years but it's just too bulky. Come to find out afterwords it nests perfectly inside of my entire cook set. If you want to see it in action check out the link bellow.

  7. Fantastic little wood stove, exceeded my expectations! 5 Star Review

Posted by on Nov 11th 2017

I did a lot of research on the most popular backcountry wood stoves including models that were double walled and single walled, models that are cylindrical and others that are put together in panels. I eventually chose the Littlbug Jr. because it is super compact and light. When the package arrived I was a little skeptical on how it would perform in the field because the metal gauge was quite thin and dimensions a little small. The stove packs down into 4 curved pieces that can easily fit around a sleeping pad, or bag. I keep mine in a 4 quart pot because I do a lot of cooking for groups of 3 or 4. The stove itself is extremely well made and efficient, every hole, flange, slot and shape has a purpose. It's truly a marvel of ingenious simplicity. I tested the stove in my backyard using scrap twigs, dried leaves, dead grass and any biomass I could find on the ground. The fire started right away and within 30 seconds could feed it larger pieces of wood about 3/4" in diameter. Everything burned down to ash. I put a 2 liter kettle on top and it boiled faster than my MSR whisperlite. The stove will support the smallest of cups up to larger diameter pots and pans. It's easy to drop wood into the gap between the pot and stove. Everyone will have different burn times depending on your wood fuel and environmental conditions. I'm really glad I purchased it, I will also use it to produce ambient heat when it's cold because the volume is large enough to actually enjoy a little fire. Made in Minnesota by a few good folks.

  8. Excellent little outdoor stove 5 Star Review

The Littlbug Junior Stove is my back country back up stove. It burns wood, pine cones, or other combustibles. It is very light and compact, and fits perfectly in my cook set. The cover helps to eliminate getting dirt into the cook set. This is my second LittlBug, as my first one didn't get home after a wilderness trip.
